Saturday Snow Day

Who says that nerds can't have fun? I took a quick break to have a little fun in the snow. I played and posed while J actually did something productive and shoveled the snow. Regardless, it was still nice to get out, have fun, and get some fresh (yet cold) air. I must say, I thought I was pretty fashionable in my winter gear. A nerd who has fun and is fashionable. I'm breaking all kinds of stereotypes. LOL.

Reading for Fun!!

One of my favorite things to do is read. I have promised myself throughout my entire academic career, that I will ALWAYS read for fun and NEVER let reading become a chore. Here are the books I am currently reading:

  1. The Shack: Where Tragedy Confronts Eternity, by William Young
  2. Barack and Michelle: Portrait of an American Marriage, by Christopher Andersen
  3. Me 2.0: Build a Powerful Brand to Achieve Career Success, by Dan Schawbel

Stay tuned for my Book Reviews!

The 21-Day Consciousness Cleanse

I am typically very skeptical about self-help books, but for some reason I keep seeing and hearing about this book and I've decided to try it! This cleanse walks me through various exercises to help me center myself and break out of the things that are holding me back and allowing me to stay in a place of mediocrity. Maybe this is just what I need and I will blog about it to keep you posted. It starts tomorrow (2/7/2010).

Snow Day!!! Not!

So, I really hoped for a snow day today. One thing that makes working on my dissertation difficult is I work full time, I help teach courses and I am taking courses in the evening. Most days I go from 7am to 8pm before I see the inside of my home. That's what makes snow days so nice. I can spend a whole day working on my dissertation and still fulfill my obligations. Well, I woke up this morning, hoping for inches of snow and I did not see one flake. Of course, it started snowing as soon as I got to work and these are pictures of all the snow by the time I got home. It's a shame all of this snow is wasted on the weekend. LOL. Luckily, I am blessed enough to love my job so I wasn't too disappointed. I plan to relax today and hit the books hard tomorrow. We Shall See.

An Attempt at Motivation

I have been pursuing this PhD at The Ohio State University and seem to be running out of steam. I received a bachelor's degree in psychology, went immediately into a program to receive a master's in counseling, and went right into a PhD program in counselor education. I finished my candidacy exams in October and now it's time for the... DISSERTATION. I have been reading anything I can find on my research topic, but because it’s such a new topic (Social Networking Sites) I am struggling to narrow this in. I’m feeling overwhelmed and I have decided that I will journal my way out of this slump. I love Ohio State, but I am ready to graduate. During my candidacy exams, I read that public self-presentation influences behavior and self-concepts (Tice, 1993). Thus, my decision to blog. Here we go…
